The MTV show that started it all is back. 16 & pregnant, the docuseries about teen motherhood will return on Tuesday October 6th. The revamped version of the show will dive deeper into the lives of teenage mothers and their families. According to MTV.com “The new iteration will follow the unexpected pregnancy journey from multiple perspectives, not just from the young mother. Intimate video confessionals from members of each family will allow the series to more substantively explore the lives of those impacted by the experience, with honesty and empathy.“
16 & Pregnant originally aired in 2009 and focused mainly on the pregnant teen and whatever romantic relationship that lead to the pregnancy. This time we will get a look at not only the teen mom but the parents, grandparents, and siblings as well.
MTV also recently began a new “sister” series called 16 & Recovering which focuses on the students of Northshore Recovery High School, that specializes in helping students who are struggling with addiction, trauma and mental health issues.
“An intimate, four-part documentary series, ’16 and Recovering’ follows the triumphs and challenges of students attending a Recovery High School in Beverly, Massachusetts. With unprecedented access over the course of a school year, the series follows the lives of students on the road to graduation who must also navigate substance use and mental health disorders along the way.” (Watch the trailer for 16 & Recovering here.)
